If we have a patient that is not very healthy, or a patient that is not brushing or keeping their teeth clean, or patients that have high cavity rates, we try to work and get rid of the overall problems first before placing dental implants.
What are the benefits and risks of dental implants?
Implants have benefits and risks associated with them. The benefits are that you do not have to take away anything off the tooth to the right or to the left of the tooth. They can be placed to help prevent the tooth above it from drifting or the teeth next to it from tipping.
The risks are that, with any surgery, you may have a little bit of slight pain and discomfort afterwards. If you follow the instructions that we provide you with, you'll have very little discomfort after the procedure. With anything else in the mouth, over 70% of Americans have periodontal disease. You still have to brush and floss them because, just like your other teeth, they can fail from getting periodontal disease.

How do you determine if dental implants are a good choice for you?
When you come in for your consultation with us, we will help you decide if dental implants are correct for you. Depending on the overall health of your mouth, we'll let you know when to start. When you come into the office, we want to make sure that all pain is gone, all disease is gone, and then once the patient is healthy, you are ready to replace your missing teeth. Then we work with your general dentist or your prostadonist to help start the plan of the phases of treatment.
What are the options for fixed and removable tooth replacement?
There are different options that patients have for something that is fixed, which means it stays in your mouth permanently, or removable, which means you take them out and leave them on your nightstand at night. When you come in, if you are missing one or a few teeth, typically you're going to get a fixed option, which means it stays in your mouth with you permanently, and it does not come in and out at night.
For removable, there are temporary solutions as well as permanent solutions. Meaning, if you have to have a front tooth out, you will have a temporary solution while it's healing, and then we provide you with a long-term solution. Patients who are replacing multiple teeth, we prefer to do something that stays in your mouth permanently versus something that comes in and out that could have wear and tear.
How long does the dental implant procedure take?
If you are going to need a dental implant placed, patients often ask, "How long does the procedure take?" After the tooth has been taken out and we do a three-dimensional scan and make a 3D-printed surgical guide, the procedure could take less than 30 minutes to place the relatively pain-free implant into the mouth.
What is the recovery like after getting dental implants?
The procedure itself of taking the tooth out. With the new procedures that we do and the posttop that we give you, patients have less pain, less swelling, and longer healing because we use all natural mouth rinses as well as what's called plateletri fibbrin that reduces bacteria, increases tissue healing and bone out past 6 to 12 months, and decreases pain and swelling. When you have the implant as well, most patients are up and going to normal activities the next day.
How long do dental implants last?
Nothing lasts for the rest of your life because, just like anything, including a car or a house that you purchase, you may have purchased it, but you still have to take care of it. We can help you put back your teeth so you have a beautiful smile, but you will still have to come in for regular checkups and cleanings, just like all the other teeth in your mouth, to make sure that they are maintained.
